Privacy policy

Penna Notes ("Penna") is a handwriting notebook app published by Pentacom Software ("we"). This policy explains what data Penna and pennanotes.com collect, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: your notebooks are yours, there are no ads or trackers, and we never sell your data.
In the app
Your notebooks
Notebooks, pages, handwriting and PDFs are saved on your device. If you don't use sync, they never leave it, except in device backups you control (for example iCloud Backup).
Your account
Sync needs an account, which you create with Sign in with Apple. Apple shares with us a user identifier and an email address, which may be a private relay address if you choose to hide yours, and your name if you choose to share it. We use these only to run your account and to contact you about it.
Sync
When sync is on, your notebooks and the changes you make to them are sent to our servers so your other devices can download them. They are encrypted in transit and at rest. We store the device names you sync from so you can see and remove them in Settings. We don't read your notebooks, except when you ask us to help with a problem and give us permission.
Purchases
Subscriptions are sold by Apple. We receive confirmation of what you bought, never your payment details.
No tracking
Penna contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking. If you choose to share crash reports and analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple sends us anonymous crash and usage reports.
On this website
pennanotes.com uses no cookies and no analytics. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address to tell you when Penna is available. We send nothing else, and we delete the list after launch. To be removed sooner, email us.
Who processes your data
We use a small number of service providers that store data on our behalf and may not use it for anything else:
- Supabase, for accounts, sync and the waitlist
- Cloudflare, for hosting this website and storing large files such as PDFs
- Apple, for Sign in with Apple, purchases and crash reports
These providers may process data in the United States and other countries.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and synced notebooks while your account exists. When you delete your account in the app (Settings, then Delete account), we delete your account and synced data from our servers within 30 days, including from backups.
Your choices and rights
You can use Penna without an account, turn sync off, and delete your account at any time. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, or to object to how we use it. Email us to do any of these, and we'll answer within 30 days.
Children
Penna is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. If a change affects how we use data you've already given us, we'll tell you in the app first.
